A Minna Based Legal practitioners Barrister Philip Emmanuel has raised alarm over the continued arrest and harassment of his client Salisu Mohammed Dankabo even with the court order restraining the police from arresting him.
Justice Mikailu Abdullahi had earlier ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of FIB Tactical Squad DCP Bello Yahaya and Divisional Police Officer DPO in-charge of Mokwa Divisional Command CSP Wakili Inusa who are respondents in the suit restraining them from arresting him.
Despite the court order, the police in their desperate move to disobey the Justice Mikailu Abdullahi court order still went further to arrest Salisu Mohammed Dankabo in a bank in Kutigi by men of Kutigi Divisional Police Command and whisked him to FIB office In Abuja.
Speaking with Journalists in Minna at the High court complexe in Minna Thursday, Barrister Philip Emmanuel described the acttions of the head of the FIB DCP Bello Yahaya and the DPO Mokwa Divisional Command CSP Wakili Inusa as contempt and abused of court order
According to the Legal practitioner his client who arrested and detained and arraigned before a Minna Chief Magistrate court Nos 1during a communal clash between Muwo and Tatabo was Exonorated by the legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecution DPP in the Ministry of Justice " but the police continued to arrest and subject him to all manners of humiliation without any reasons"
" The Inspector General of Police was served the court order by the bailif of the court. He received the court order.
" The head of the FIB Tactical Squad DCP Bello Yahaya refused to collect his own. The DPO Mokwa CSP Wakili Inusa also refused to collect his own.
" I will approach the court to file a contempt of court against the other two plaintiffs for them to show cause why they would not be charged for contempt" he told Journalists.
He said the continued arrest and detention of his client even with series of court orders is a violation of his fundamental right and infringement of his constitutional right of liberty calling on the Inspector General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun to as a matter of necessity prevail on his men to immediately release his client forthwith.
He described as painful the unlwful and unconstitutional manner in which the police that ordinarily ought to be a custodian of law and order " now are behaving as been above the law should be condemned"
The legal practitioner told Journalists that the better for the head of FIB Tactical Squad DCP Bello Yahaya and Divisional Police Officer DPO in-charge of Mokwa Divisional Command CSP Wakili Inusa to comply with the court order the better for them.
