Former Nasarawa state Governor and Senator Representing Nassarawa South Senatorial District Senator Umar Tanko Almakura, has showered encomium on founding fathers of Nasarawa state in particular and Nigeria in general.
He gave the commendation during a media chat with journalists at his residence in, Lafia the state capital.
Sen. Al-Makura said the founding fathers of Nasarawa state deserved accolade for laying a solid foundation for the development of the state, Just as he said attested the fact that he did not met a failed state.
He appealed to the citizens of Nasarawa state and Nigerians to uphold the culture of peace, unity at all times irrespective of ethnic, religion and political sharp division.
Responding to questions over his on his political next line of action, Sen. Al-makura, stated that he didn't have any particular ambition for now.
" I want to be on the watch side and make sure things are going well in the state as an elder statesman after the elapsed of my tenure as Senator.
" I will chose to remain a statesman and be a father after I left the red chamber.
Continuing that" for now seeking for any elective positions is not in his dream as some people are insinuating and already calling me names. These are mere speculations, “I want to see myself as a leader and father of the state after my exist as Senator" he said.
“If the time comes the people of Nasarawa state would decide who will succeed me and lead them. We are in democracy, the people of the state have their right of choosen who ever they want to lead them in what ever capacity of leadership.
Sen. Al-Makura further explained that despite the security challenges facing the state, the state have achieved alots especially in the area of people oriented projects in the last five years.
" My foundermenta mission in the National Assembly as Senator Representing Southern Nasarawa District is to provide my constituents with quality representation and serve them with the best of my abilities, Just as he promised to continue to ensure effective and result-oriented representation that is second to none in the history of the senatorial district
" It's no longer a news that within my four years at the red chamber I have make a difference as people of Nasarawa south have continued to reap true dividends of democracy with numerous achievements recorded so far.
Include legislative responsibilities, project execution,, attracting federal presence to my constituency to mention but few.
Within four years as a senator, Al-Makura has construct and rehabilitated many urban and rural roads in all the five local government areas of his senatorial district. They include construction of rural access road in Shabu, Ashige-Ugah – Fadaman Bauna in Lafia local government area, among others.
"As a senator, Al-Makura has continued to make the voice of his people heard not only in the National Assembly but also in Nigerian politics and governance.
On education, Al-Makura carried out massive renovation of schools, construction of classrooms, provision of educational materials to schools across, Nasarawa Southern Senatorial District, where millions of naira was expanded geared towards reviving the education sector of Nasarawa south. Some of the benefiting schools include Danka Primary School near Kwandare, Randam Sarki Primary School, Gidan Sule Primary School Kadarko, Asha Primary School Azara, among others
Al-Makura has also made giant strides in the area of electrification and water supply which saw the distribution and installation of transformers to communities,, drilling of motorised boreholes, installation of integrated solar street lights in Lafia, Awe, Keana, Obi and Doma. He also supports community development efforts. There are also intervention in the healthcare and empowerment of women and youth.
