NDC Targets 2027 Victory in Nasarawa, Calls for Aggressive Grassroots Mobilisation
By Suleiman Abubakar Rimi Uku

The Nasarawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on party leaders, candidates and members to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The chairman made the call on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Nurses House during a strategic meeting with critical stakeholders of the party in Nasarawa State.

The meeting was attended by members of the State Working Committee (SWC), local government chairmen, critical stakeholders, the party’s governorship candidate, Barrister Abdullahi Musa Shugaba, his running mate, Engr. Danjuma Dauda Shazhimil, National and State Assembly candidates, as well as various support groups.
According to the chairman, the meeting was convened to strengthen the party’s structures and chart a common strategy for the 2027 elections.

He recalled that the NDC conducted its primaries in May 2026, during which candidates for the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly were elected.
The chairman described the NDC as a relatively new political party, having been registered about six months ago, but maintained that it had continued to gain acceptance among Nigerians.

He said the party was established out of a desire to return political power to the people and promote good governance, economic opportunities and inclusive development.

He said the NDC’s agenda in Nasarawa State would focus on youth empowerment and job creation, infrastructure development and improved social services.

The chairman urged members at the state, zonal, local government, ward and polling-unit levels to work together and embark on aggressive sensitisation of voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also referenced the 2023 general elections, saying that narratives circulated during the campaign period about the electoral prospects of Peter Obi had discouraged some voters from supporting him.
He urged NDC members to counter what he described as similar narratives ahead of the 2027 elections through voter education and grassroots engagement.

The chairman further expressed support for a proposed Obi/Kwankwaso ticket, saying the party believes it could provide an alternative political direction for the country.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nasarawa State NDC to mobilise support for its candidates contesting the presidency, Senate, House of Representatives, governorship and State House of Assembly seats in 2027.

He called on all party leaders and candidates to unite and work collectively towards the forthcoming elections.

The chairman said the strategic meeting marked the beginning of broader engagements across Nasarawa State aimed at strengthening the party and challenging the ruling party in the 2027 elections.

He also commended the NDC National Leader, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, for his role in supporting the development of the party.

He equally appreciated the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee for their encouragement and support.
