Katsina Citizens Hail Atiku, ADC Over Petrol Subsidy Position
In a Press Release Signed by Abubakar Ahmed, Spokesman to Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita, Katsina State ADC Gubernatorial Candidate
Citizens of Katsina State have expressed confidence in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, over the party’s position on the restoration of petrol subsidy.
The commendation was contained in a press release signed by Abubakar Ahmed, spokesman to Sen. Ahmad Babba Kaita, Katsina State ADC gubernatorial candidate, and dated August 21, 2026.
According to the statement, the development followed a Hausa phone-in programme on Ray Power Radio and Television, Katsina, where ADC chieftain Hon. Surajo Aminu-Makera discussed the party’s position and the political situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aminu-Makera described the removal of petrol subsidy as a decision that was hastily announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his inauguration in May 2023.
He argued that a policy as critical as petrol subsidy removal required extensive consultations with stakeholders and careful consideration of its potential impact on Nigerians.
The ADC chieftain said the policy had caused untold hardship to Nigerians, while also questioning the Federal Government’s management of revenues accruing from the subsidy removal.
He challenged the President to explain how the Federal Government utilises its 52 per cent share of the revenue, after stating that the 36 state governments receive 48 per cent.
The statement quoted Aminu-Makera as saying Nigerians have the right to question state governors over the management of public resources, but that the Federal Government should equally account for its own share.
On the 2027 elections, Aminu-Makera described the ADC as the only opposition party that has fielded candidates for all elective positions across the country, from the presidency and governorship to the National and State Assemblies.
He also expressed concern over the security situation in the country and questioned the government’s response to the challenges confronting Nigerians.
The ADC chieftain urged Nigerians to vote wisely in 2027 by supporting the ADC, which he said would provide good governance if elected.
The statement added that callers to the radio programme commended the ADC and its leaders for sustaining opposition politics and remaining focused on the objective of challenging the ruling APC at all levels.
