Gov. Sule Orders Political Appointees Seeking Office to Resign by March 31
Directive aligns with Electoral Act and INEC timetable ahead of 2027 general elections

The Nasarawa State Government has directed all political appointees intending to contest in the forthcoming 2027 general elections to resign their appointments on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive, issued by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, is in compliance with the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, as well as the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
In a press release signed by the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Shuaibu Magaji Labaran, the affected officials include Honourable Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, and Personal Assistants.
Also affected are Directors-General, Chief Executive Officers of government agencies, commissions, boards, parastatals, and all other political appointees under the Nasarawa State Government who wish to participate in party primaries or seek elective positions.
The statement further directed that all affected officials must submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the State on or before the stipulated deadline.
The government emphasized that strict compliance with the directive is mandatory for all concerned.
