The All Progressives Congress (APC) Nasarawa State chapter has reacted sharply to comments made by former Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Dr. Lucky Yargwa, following his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a press statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, High Chief Otaru Douglas, the party said while Yargwa has the right to freely associate and choose any political platform, his attempt to disparage the APC after benefitting from it was “ungrateful and lacking in decorum.”
The APC congratulated him on his decision to leave but condemned what it described as his “opportunistic behaviour” and “fair-weather politics,” asserting that his criticisms were motivated by personal frustration rather than genuine concern for democratic processes.
According to the statement, Yargwa’s defection exposes “desperation and lack of vision,” adding that the people of Nasarawa State deserve leaders driven by principles, not ambition.
The party dismissed Yargwa’s claim that the APC suffers from internal divisions, describing his comments as “false, mischievous, and misleading.” It insisted that the Nasarawa APC remains united and structurally solid at all levels, unlike the ADC, which it alleged is embroiled in internal crises and struggling with identity issues.
The statement further accused Yargwa of hypocrisy for faulting APC’s internal democracy after failing to secure reappointment as Commissioner.
It argued that his public criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms aligns with “the usual pattern of bile” associated with politicians who switch parties in search of relevance.
The APC also claimed that the issues Yargwa raised were caused by the “coalition of political demons” he has now aligned with in the ADC.
On his statement of “loyalty” to Governor Abdullahi Sule, the party advised him to keep what it described as “false loyalty and hypocrisy” to himself, stating that neither the governor nor the APC is interested in his divided allegiance.
The statement urged Yargwa to focus on resolving the internal challenges of the ADC rather than attempting to undermine the ruling party.
