The Kogi State Government has announced the early payment of December 2024 salaries on December 14, a move aimed at enabling civil servants to plan and enjoy the Christmas and New Year holidays. This gesture reflects the government's commitment to the welfare of its workforce.

Addressing newsmen on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed that the decision, approved by Governor Usman Ododo, would also assist workers who intend to travel during the festive period to prepare without financial constraints.

"This timely payment is to ensure civil servants begin their holiday preparations in earnest and enjoy a stress-free yuletide," Fanwo stated. He noted that a similar initiative was implemented during the last Sallah break to support workers' celebrations with their loved ones.

Fanwo emphasized that the Governor remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of civil servants, recognizing their hard work and dedication to the state’s developmental strides.

“Kogi State civil servants have worked tirelessly to support our policies and projects.
It is only right that we reciprocate by ensuring their yuletide is enjoyable through prompt salary payments,” Fanwo said.

Kogi State has been at the forefront of worker-friendly policies, including being one of the first states to implement the new minimum wage.

In response, civil servants expressed gratitude for the Governor’s consistent prioritization of their welfare. Segun Adegboyega, a state employee, remarked, "This early salary payment was expected, given the Governor’s track record, but the timing still came as a pleasant surprise."

Another civil servant, Hajara Musa, praised the Governor, calling him "Mr. Alert" for his prompt salary disbursement, a practice she attributed to the leadership of Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the humane approach of Governor Usman Ododo.

The early payment initiative has reinforced the state government's reputation for fostering a supportive and productive relationship with its workforce.
