President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his deepest condolences to the government and people of the United States of America on the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, who died at the age of 100.
In a press statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), President Tinubu described Carter as a global icon whose service to humanity and leadership went beyond his tenure as the 39th President of the United States.
"President Carter showed us all how to remain impactful after leaving the esteemed position of President of the United States," President Tinubu remarked.
"He tackled challenges in the developing world, from mediating conflicts to combating diseases and promoting democratic values. He embodied grace, dignity, and a profound respect for humanity."
The President fondly recalled Carter's friendship with Nigeria and his impactful contributions through The Carter Center, particularly in eradicating Guinea worm disease and river blindness, significantly improving lives across the country.
President Tinubu also reflected on Carter's historic visit to Nigeria in 1978, describing it as a defining moment in U.S.-Africa relations that placed Nigeria at the center of American foreign policy in Africa.
He concluded by expressing hope that President Carter’s legacy of integrity, compassion, and service will inspire leaders around the world to embrace the true essence of leadership.
