The Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held its 2024 Gala and Award Night in Lafia, celebrating excellence in developmental journalism and recognizing outstanding contributions by individuals in the state.
The event honored media practitioners for their exceptional reportage and programing, alongside prominent personalities for their roles in advancing the state’s development. Awardees included three lawmakers: Hon. Jonah Ali Dizaho (PDP-Karu/Gitta), Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki (SDP-Lafia Central), and Hon. Hudu A. Hudu (APC-Awe North).
Others recognized were Hon. Silas Ali Agara, Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and former Deputy Governor, Mr. Ahmed Abubakar Kana, General Manager of the Nasarawa State Water Board, and Ambassador Isaac Kigbu, a former Eggon Youth Movement President.
In his address, Hon. Jonah Ali Dizaho, Chairman of the occasion, urged journalists to focus on developmental journalism and portray the state government’s activities positively.
He emphasized professionalism and advised the media to protect the state’s image while congratulating the awardees for their dedication.
The Guest Speaker, Mr. Allahnana Attah, a former Permanent Secretary, spoke on "Balancing Media Ownership Interests and Public Responsibility," encouraging journalists to prioritize public interest and maintain balance in their reporting.
Chairman of the NUJ NBS chapter, Mr. Valentine Joshua, highlighted the importance of rewarding hard work and fostering productivity.
He praised the union's collaboration with the NBS management and various stakeholders, noting the contributions of individuals such as Hon. Silas Agara for sponsoring training programs and Ambassador Kigbu for his philanthropy.
The event also featured cultural performances promoting unity and peace in Nasarawa State, drawing attendance from notable figures, including HRH Sunday Namo, Alhaji Ibrahim Addra, and Dr. Priscilla Gondualuor, among others.
