Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has officially initiated the construction of a new mega smart Port City in Eleme Local Government Area.
This ambitious project, a joint venture between the Rivers State Government and Rainbow Heritage Group, aims to modernize the state's urban landscape and promote balanced development.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, Governor Fubara highlighted the importance of the Port Smart City as a pivotal part of his administration’s strategy to address urban renewal and ensure the socio-economic well-being of Rivers people.
He noted that the decay of Port Harcourt due to overpopulation necessitated a shift to developing new cities across the state, starting with the Port City in Eleme.
The Governor also revealed plans to expand the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) into a broader New Cities Development Authority, emphasizing the need for multiple smart garden cities throughout Rivers State.
He urged the people of Eleme to embrace the project, which promises to bring significant industrial and commercial growth to the area.
The project has garnered widespread support, with Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Netherlands, Amb. Orji Ngoja, and other stakeholders praising the initiative for its potential to boost local industries and improve the quality of life for Eleme residents.
As work begins on this landmark development, Governor Fubara assured the public that his administration remains focused on delivering people-centered progress, despite any distractions.
