Former President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly set to receive an automatic ticket from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 presidential election.
This development follows mounting calls within the party for Jonathan to re-enter the presidential race. Just four days ago, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, publicly declared his willingness to forego his own presidential ambitions if Jonathan agrees to run.
The PDP’s endorsement of Jonathan’s potential candidacy comes at a time when the current administration has completed just over a year in office.
Despite this, some within the party are already looking ahead to the next election cycle, exploring possible candidates to challenge the ruling party.
Efforts to obtain a response from Jonathan’s camp were unsuccessful. When contacted, Ikechukwu Eze, spokesperson for the former President, declined to comment, citing his inability to speak at the time. Subsequent attempts to reach him for a reaction were met with no response.
This development suggests that the PDP may be positioning Jonathan as a key contender for the 2027 race, though it remains unclear whether he will accept the nomination.
