Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a scathing critique of the Nigerian government's treatment of workers, highlighting concerns over corruption and inefficiencies that burden the nation's workforce. In a statement released on International Workers Day, Abubakar emphasized the dire plight of Nigerian workers, lamenting the lack of promised wage increases amidst rising living costs.
Abubakar condemned the government's unilateral removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), citing the undue burden it places on ordinary Nigerians.
He accused the current administration of neglecting workers' rights and subjecting them to economic hardship, exacerbated by unchecked inflation and essential goods' skyrocketing prices.
Expressing solidarity with Nigerian workers, Abubakar urged the government to prioritize workers' concerns and address systemic corruption and inefficiencies that perpetuate hardship.
He called on authorities to heed the theme of this year's Labour Day, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate.
