The Management of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi has assured to continue to put in place adequate infrastructure and medical equipments for the benefit of patients and to guarantee effective service delivery.
The Public Relations Officer of FMC, Miss Esther Bature, stated this when she led a group of journalists on a tour of recently completed and ongoing projects at the medical centre in Keffi local government area of Nasarawa state.
According to Bature, the tour of the centre is to showcase to the outside world the array of completed or ongoing project facilities aimed at catering for the medical need of patients by management of the hospital under the leadership of it's Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Yahaya Baba-Adamu.
"One of the reasons for this tour is that we see the media as an important partner and we want the media to tell the world what we are doing, what we have to offer such as the facilities and services we have to render to the public," she said.
She revealed the facilities visited to include an ongoing Twin Modular Theatre project with completion date set for December 2023, Ongoing 116 Bed Ward Extension project with completion date subject to availability of funds.
She added that others are the centre's recently built Haemodialysis Centre which has commenced offering services to patients with kidney challenges among others, Installation of the second Oxygen plant and the centre's recently completed Multi Specialist Unit Building.
"We were able to secure the second Oxygen plant with a capacity of 60 cylinders per day so as to be able to meet our oxygen needs and even supply to neighbouring health centres.
"We appreciate the administration of our CMD and federal government for putting in place this second plant. The Multi Specialist Unit Building awaiting commissioning will provide additional office and treatment spaces for the Dental, Physiotherapy, Ophthamology and Psychiatry departments.
"As for the 116 Bed Ward Extension, I can tell you that it's in it's second stage of completion and hopefully with the availability of funds, it will be completed soon. The Twin Modular Theatre is an addition to the other Theatres in the centre.
"It will be used for carrying several operations at the same time. It will go a long way in eating pressure on other Theatres in the medical centre and our Haemodialysis Centre is capable of handling 8 patients daily," she said.
Bature also pointed out that work has commenced at the FMC Keffi Permanent site as the capacity of the current location of the centre will not be able to accommodate all the facilities and structures the centre needs to meet the needs of all patients.
"The medical centre intends to become a five star medical centre and that is long overdue. So right now we have started two projects at the permanent site which are the house officers quarters and the trauma centre. They are in their foundation level right now," she said.
She then added that commissioning of some of the projects will take place in 2024 thereby assuring the public especially patients to continue to have faith in the medical centre to meet their medical needs.
