EKITI GOV CELEBRATES ZAZZAU MORNACH, CALLS FOR HISTORICAL DOCUMENTATION

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Aboidun Abayomi Oyebanji has celebrated the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman Kaduna State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli on the occasion of his 6 Year anniversary on the throne as the 19th Emir of the Emirate.
He joined thousands of highly profiled personalities to felicitate with the Emir at his Palace in the ancient of Zaria where Special prayers and Public presentation of book titled " Emirs of Zazzau: A Biographical Study, 1808–2025" as part of activities for the event held on Wednesday
Governor represented by one his aides, Mr Biodun Borisade Oyebanji, has stressed the need for Nigeria’s history to be properly documented by people who directly participated in major historical events, saying such accounts are essential to preventing distortion and inaccurate representation of the country’s past.
He pointed out that the documentation of history was particularly important because it would provide future generations with authentic accounts of the people, institutions and events that shaped the Zazzau Emirate and Nigeria as a whole.
“It is very important that history is documented, that history is documented by the real players. That in itself ensures that history is not wrongly written,” Oyebanji said.
He described the publication as an important contribution to the preservation of the history of the Zazzau Emirate, noting that the book contains updates, corrections and clarifications intended to address errors and misnomers contained in some earlier historical accounts.
According to him, documenting history from the perspective of those who were directly involved would enable future generations to better understand the circumstances surrounding important events and the roles played by individuals and institutions in shaping society.
The governor also used the occasion to highlight the importance of national unity, saying the presence of people from different parts of Nigeria at the event demonstrated the cordial relationships and bonds that continue to exist among the country’s diverse communities.
He said the gathering was a reflection of Nigeria’s strength in diversity, noting that the various regions of the country possess unique strengths and contributions that are important to national development.
The Governor urged Nigerians to continue supporting values and initiatives capable of projecting the country positively, warning against allowing issues beyond their control to become sources of unnecessary disagreement and division.
He also referred to earlier remarks by the Sultan and emphasised the need for responsible advocacy, unity and actions that would strengthen Nigeria’s image and national cohesion.
Oyebanji further stated that Nigerians must learn to maintain cordial relationships across regional, cultural and religious boundaries, stressing that the country’s diversity should be regarded as a source of strength rather than division.
He congratulated the organisers, editors and contributors to the publication, describing the occasion as significant and expressing optimism about the formal presentation of the book.
