The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Niger State, Hajiya Hadiza Idris Kuta hass raised concern over the increasing rates of rape, sexual molestation, and other gender based violence against womend and girl child in Kontagora local government area in Niger State.
Hajiya Hadiza Idris raised the the during her working visit to the Palace of Emir of Kontagora in Niger State, Alhaji Muhammad Bara’u Mu’azu to express the State Government concerned on the alarming rate of Gender Based Violence, (GBV),girl child molestation and other vices against women in Kontagora Emirate.
The Commissioner in a press statement she personally signed and made available to Newsline online in Minna stated that the Ministry under her watch will no longer tolerate the trends in the state.
The Commissioner,who expressed her concern of the menace in Kontagora,condemned in strong terms describing these heinous acts as violation of the dignity,safety and future of women,girls and the vulnerable in the state.
She described the activities of the rapists in Kontagora Emirate,as barbaric and ungodly warning that her Ministry will now go all out to bring these heinous crimes to an end and perpetrators will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“ I strongly condemn these heinous acts that violate the dignity,safety,and future of our women and girls.Rape is a crime against humanity. It destroys lives,families and trust within our society” she stated.
She disclosed that as government,the Ministry under her leadership,will collaborate with the Judiciary and other relevant agencies in the State to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes of rape and other violence and gender related cases are brought to justice.
“ As a government, and as a people we must put an end to these crimes. As a government we must say enough is enough. There must be no hiding place for perpetrators of this inhuman acts against our girls and women. The Ministry of Women Affairs under my watch will go all out for them this time” she added.
Hajiya Hadiza Idris Kuta also cautioned parents and guardians not to shield perpetrators of rape and other gender based violence against women and girl child stressing that they should always raised their voices against such offenders in their midsts for prompt action.
Receiving the Commissioner,the Emir of Kontagora, Alhaji Muhammad Bara'u Mu’azu commended the Commissioner and her entourage for the visit and described the trends in his Emirate as disturbing.
The Mornach, assured the Commissioner of his Emirate support to this cause directing all District Heads under his domain, working with security agencies, to ensure that every case of rape is reported immediately and pursued to the full extent of the law.
He pointed out that the Niger State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, remains committed to strengthening prevention, response, and survivor support services across all 25 LGAs.
“I call on parents, community leaders, religious leaders, and all citizens to speak up and help us break the culture of silence. Together, we will intensify awareness, support survivors, and ensure justice for all” he concluded
