The Chairman Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Minna Branch law week Committee Barrister Mohammed Abdukadir Waziri, has challenged members of the legal profession to continue to consciously influence institutions that will strengthen institutions,promote accountability,and uphold the supremacy of the rule of law.
He observed that the legal profession carries a profound responsibility in the sustenance of democracy, reaffirming that the responsibility is not only in words but in actions,ideas,and commitments that reflect courage,clarity,and integrity.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Minna at the Weekend Barrister Abdul Kadir Waziri,explained that this year law week is far more than a ceremonial gathering stating that it is a platform for reflection,engagement,and purposeful action
He noted that the law week is a time when the legal profession collectively steps back to evaluate its influence,its responsibilities,and its role in shaping the institutions upon which our democracy rests.
According to the Chairman of the law week Committee,the 2026 law week has been conceived with a clear sense of purpose and awareness of the realities that define our national space stressing that it is designed not just as an event,but as a deliberate intervention in ongoing conversations around law,governance,and Democratic development
He pointed out that they are intentionally structuring the law week to be different, more interactive,more substantive,and more
of the challenges of the time.
He pointed out the 2026 law week has been conceived with a clear sense of purpose and awareness of the realities that define our national space.
He stressed that it is designed not just as an event,but as a deliberate intervention in ongoing conversations around law,governance,and Democratic development.
Stating that participants would expect,critical dialogues that explore the role of law in shaping governance and political accountability practical insights into how legal professionals can reinforce democratic institutions and safeguard the rule of law,engagements that challenge assumptions,push boundaries,and translate into actionable strategies for strengthening justice in Nigeria.
The law week,according to Abdukadir Waziri, is slated to commence from the 5th to the 10th of June,2026, will feature a carefully curated sequence of activities aimed at deepening engagement, stimulating thought,and encouraging meaningful participation across different segments of the profession and the wider society.
He disclosed that this year law week is not of
speeches and pleasantries but it is designed to be a forum of ideas,debate,and innovation,where experienced practitioners,academics,policymakers,and stakeholders “come together to think boldly ,act responsibly,and set new standards for the profession and of cause,the governance of our dear country”
“ We will examine questions such as: How can the legal profession ensure that laws are not only passed but properly enforced. How can lawyers contribute to accountability in governance without compromising independence or integrity? And how do we,as custodians of Justice,advance the rule of law in ways that meaningfully strengthen our democracy?” Waziri asked
He posited that these questions are not merely theoretical,but reflect ongoing realities within our Democratic experience and underscore the importance of sustained and deliberate engagement by the legal profession.
The law week with the theme: “ Law,Governance and Politics: The Role of the Legal Profession in Advancing the Rule of Law in Nigeria's Democracy” will serve as the intellectual and practical compass for all “ our engagements throughout the law week, It calls for more than discussion it calls for introspection,responsibility,and action.
