The Kokona Local Government Legislative Council has reaffirmed its loyalty to Governor Abdullahi Sule and the leadership of Chairman Agbawu Mek Agbawu following a political controversy involving six council members.
The affected lawmakers had openly endorsed a governorship aspirant despite Governor Sule’s earlier caution to political appointees and stakeholders to avoid premature declarations ahead of the next governorship race.
Speaker Abdulkareem Goma Usman strongly criticized their actions, describing the endorsement as illegal and a clear violation of the governor’s directive.
He announced that the council would initiate disciplinary measures against the six members in line with legislative rules, stressing that such actions must not be repeated.
Deputy Speaker Dauda Abdullahi Kana and Majority Leader Smart Jatau Akenyi distanced themselves from the position of the six lawmakers, stating that the endorsement reflected personal interests and not the collective decision of the council.
They reaffirmed their commitment to Governor Sule’s administration and to the development agenda of Kokona Local Government.
