The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), under the leadership of Hajji Gafar Olawale Liameed, has announced significant appointments aimed at enhancing grassroots football development in the state.
On Saturday, the board appointed veteran sports journalist and former LSFA board member, Wale Joseph, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Football League. In addition, experienced football administrator Dele Gbajumo was named CEO of the State Under-15 and Under-17 football leagues.
The appointments were announced during a meeting held at the LSFA Secretariat, attended by representatives from State Divisional FAs and State Football League Clubs. LSFA Vice-Chairman Dotun Coker emphasized the board’s commitment to revitalizing football at the grassroots level.
He noted that the restructuring, rebranding, and repackaging of the State League are crucial steps toward attracting sponsorship and elevating the league's standards.
Coker also revealed that the league board has been tasked with establishing an Elite State League that will not only be highly competitive but also appealing to sponsors and partners.
The focus will be on creating a league that offers awards and monetary rewards for players and clubs, thereby increasing its allure.
The Under-15 and Under-17 leagues are top priorities for the board, leading to the appointment of Dele Gbajumo, who has a strong background in football administration as a former Chairman of the Ikeja Divisional FA. Coker highlighted the FA's effective scouting system for younger players and stressed the importance of having a well-structured league to nurture their development.
Wale Joseph will be supported by Musbau Oseni and Adeleke Ibiyemi, while Dele Gbajumo will work alongside Victor Akinmoyo and Bello Ishola. Meanwhile, registration for the 2023/2024 State League has commenced and will close on Friday, August 23, 2024.
