Benue State has launched a program to distribute 10,000 nursery palm trees as part of the Alia's Youth Legacy empowerment project.
The initiative aims to empower the youth by providing them with opportunities to plant palm trees and become millionaires in the future.
During the launch event held in Makurdi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth, Mobilization, and Empowerment, Hon Moses Mkeenen, highlighted the benefits of palm trees that have the capacity to produce three times a year.
Hon. Mkeenem emphasized the potential for Benue youth to become wealthy through the project and thanked the Governor for the initiative even as he encouraged support from Benue citizens in the diaspora.
He encouraged the youth to take the project seriously and emphasized the potential for them to become successful millionaires.
The chairman of the occasion, Chief Sen. Barnabas Gemade, praised the initiative and shared his own success story of planting palm trees 30 years ago.
Gemade who was represented by a former Speaker House of Assembly in the State and serving Commissioner for Youths, RT. Hon. Terkimbi Ikyange expressed optimism about the project's impact on the youth and donated 1000 stands as his contribution.
Others, including the state Commissioner for finance, Chief Michael Oglegba, also expressed support for the project and donated 1000 stands to help every youth benefit from the opportunity.
Leaders of the three Senatorial zones received stands on behalf of their members while the youths who were present at the flag off equally obtained some stands for free.
