Security personnel attached to the Bauchi Government House assaulted a group of protesting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Bauchi State.
The Krestnews gathered that the PWDs had joined the #EndofBadGovernance protests in the state as they marched to the Government House.
However, they were prevented from gaining access to the Governor’s Office where they had planned to meet with the Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, in order to lay their grievances.
A spokesperson for the PWDs, who refused to disclose his identity, lamented in an interview with journalists that most of them are graduates from higher institutions but remain jobless, with no hope for a better future, thereby needing government intervention.
He further claimed that they were mistreated by security agencies, who nearly brutalised them despite being harmless and only trying to attract the government’s attention.
Meanwhile Bauchi Government has ordered a thorough investigation into a maltreating of a physically challenged person at the Bauchi State Government House.
The government condemned the actions of the security personnel involved and assured the public that the officers will be held accountable if found guilty to have acted improperly.
In a press release signed by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the government stated that it does not condone any form of violence or misconduct by law enforcement officers.
According to the Statement, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad has made it clear that the welfare and rights of all citizens, especially vulnerable groups, remain his top priority.
He has directed a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident and ensure that justice is served.
