IPOB Confirms $19,000 Payment to Ifeanyi Ejiofor for Kanu’s Legal, Humanitarian Advocacy

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has confirmed the transfer of $19,000 to Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, describing the payment as support for humanitarian and advocacy efforts linked to the legal defense of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Head of IPOB’s Directorate of Finance, Nnennaya Anya, said the transaction was carried out on August 9, 2021, following direct instructions from Kanu after his controversial rendition from Kenya to Nigeria.
According to the statement, the funds were transferred from IPOB’s account at JPMorgan Chase Bank in the United States to Ejiofor’s U.S. dollar domiciliary account with Fidelity Bank Plc in Lagos.
The beneficiary account was listed under the name “Ben I. Ejiofor & Company,” while the transfer reference reportedly indicated “Humanitarian And Advocacy Payment”, with the transaction classified under business purposes. A wire transfer fee of $50 was also recorded for the transaction.
Anya explained that the disclosure was made to address public debate and clarify issues surrounding financial transactions linked to Kanu’s legal representation.
She stated that the payment was intended to support humanitarian initiatives and advocacy efforts associated with the legal proceedings involving the IPOB leader.
IPOB maintained that the clarification was necessary to counter what it described as misinformation regarding the receipt of professional fees or financial support tied to the legal defense of Nnamdi Kanu.
The finance director added that supporting documentation, including a bank statement reflecting the transfer details, had been attached as proof of the transaction.
The statement was issued from Cologne, Germany, on March 8, 2026, and urged supporters and the public to rely on documented evidence regarding the payment.
IPOB reiterated its commitment to transparency in financial matters connected to the legal campaign for its detained leader.
